Alright, let's do this!
Last night was an absolute trip. I stayed up as best as I could. I made it till 2:00 am by just switching between entertaining youtube videos and the election coverage. After that, it became really tough not to nap a bit, so I did. Woke up around 3:00 am just in time to see the notification of Clinton conceding and Mike Pence taking the stage. That man literally looks like he has to take an uncomfortable poop all the time.
Then Trump took to the stage. And as he continued to thank people who weren't present and played the most awkward looking game of where's waldo, then continued by spiraling into just stringing words like great, fantastic, and the like together in borderline dementia levels, I figured it was time for bed.
Now, I also had hallucinations as I slept that caused me to hide under the covers and scare Melissa.
I'm not saying the two situations were related.
I'm really not.
Nope.
Moving along, congrazzles America, you got a lemon. Or, orange?
Now I want to address a few things in the upcoming sections. First off is related to the various posts I have seen on the ole social media. Specifically targeting those that voted third party, and blaming them for the failure of Clinton. Not cool peoples. While I agree that Clinton was a potentially less dangerous possibility than Trump, you should all be able to recognize that she was not a worthy candidate either. And just because those of us out in the expanse of North America wanted to vote for what our heart said was correct, we should not be faulted for this. The only group of people I would literally blame are those that voted for Trump. More on that to come.
I do agree with all of the posts that seem in the positive though. Those that choose a path of continuing the fight rather than just giving up.
I mean the whole thing with Brexit went down, and Britain is still there. The people there have not devolved into raving mad delinquents. Yet.
So stop with the shaming of the people that chose an alternate route. This was not the fault of those who dared to vote for what they believed in.
Instead realize that more than anything, this election has shown us all something.
What our enemies are.
Our enemies are hate, bigotry, racism, misogyny, disrespect, deception, and all the vile things this process has shown us to be much more prevalent than before.
Not individuals. Now, unfortunately the election this go around has really forced our hand when it comes to those we thought we knew. Even in the past, as families divided over situations like slavery, people of color voting and being equal, women voting and being equal, sexual preference, and reproductive rights, I would like to imagine us as a society growing with each of those problems, progressing. But these past few months seem to have regressed the rhetoric on many of those issues that should have been behind us all.
And that brings me back to who I might actually blame. Don your tinfoil hats kiddies, it's theory time.
I blame old white people. Because they think Donald Trump is Ronald Reagan. And let me tell you, he is not.
What tipped me off to this idea was a comment made by my mother in law. She said that we have voted for an actor for president before. Now I'm not the biggest history buff especially when it comes to the U.S. So I looked up the information of what all the presidents were known for before becoming the president. And sure enough, Reagan's main accomplishment was listed as actor. But, upon further investigation it was revealed that he was also the President of the Screen Actors Guild of the time and then further moved into Governor of California where his success eventually paved the way to the White House. Where as president he apparently left office after two successful terms with one of the highest ratings of any president. I was about 4 at the time so forgive me if I don't have firsthand accounts. Now to reiterate, Reagan was a successful Governor. And that's where I think those imagining Reagan got confused. They saw this kind of rude, brash person who was kind of relate-able and kept talking about returning America to a previous state of success. Then they kind of ignored all the bad stuff and more than likely followed through with the candidates thoughts that the negative stuff was just a smear campaign. That rigged system really worked out for Trump didn't it? This idea also came into clarity when I watched a video of a woman at the RNC, trying to hold up a poster saying no racism no hate and being forcibly blocked by people trying to cover the entire area with American flags. Even more audacious, a seemingly much older couple tried to literally rip the poster from the hands of the woman. Now to me, one, old white people, two, is the flag covering symbolizing the prospect that America will just cover up issues relating to racism and hate? So old white people were blinded by fantastic promises and were reminded of Reagan. Now they directly compared Trump to Reagan and what I can only assume thought, "Close enough."
Trump has not held any form of office, or any job directly related to the law.
He does have questionable business practices, questionable business partners, and seemingly questionable moral standards.
These are not beneficial to anyone, except Trump. And that's questionable.
A lot of the country is in shock. Most of the world is in shock as well. We as a nation will survive what we can hope is only 4 years. But a turn has been made. The U.S. will never look the same to those within and outside of. Historic? Yes, as was the Holocaust. And unfortunately many parallels have been drawn. I recently read about kristallnacht. This seems like an unfortunately very real scenario if things continue down the path they've been on.
But it will be up to us as individuals to fight for the good side. The side of reason that looks at all the issues being readdressed and go, "Why are we on about that again?"
I'm not going to lie, I see another form of civil war brewing, and I don't find that too unsettling. A revolution would probably be best, maybe somewhere in the middle? Seems like that's where it is headed.
Stay sexy and vigilant everyone.
I know I will.
For my sake, and for all those I hold dear.
